Violence against children in the Philippines
As many as 4 in 5 Filipino children have experienced some form of violence in their lifetime. This could take place at home, in school, in their community, or online. Most children, and indeed, their families and communities, do not know how to prevent and protect themselves from abuse. Moreover, the government faces challenges in implementing consistently effective child protection services to support the children who are in the greatest need.
What is the effect of violence on children?
Violence can have severe consequences on children’s mental, emotional, social and physical health. It can result in developmental impairments, and even death. It can disrupt their learning and deprive them of opportunities to be productive and successful later in life.
What is ChildFund doing to protect children from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation?
ChildFund Philippines is helping to strengthen community-based child protection mechanisms (CBCPMs) to better prevent and respond to violence against children in the home, school, community, and online. We train service providers and other child protection actors on effective case management and referral. We also raise awareness among children, youth, and their parents on how to detect and report child protection issues.
