Who we are

our story

Children in the Philippines face myriad challenges that hinder their full potential. We strive to provide these children, their families, and communities with an enabling environment where their rights are protected, their voices are heard, and their well-being is safeguarded. We foster multi-stakeholder partnerships to address the root causes of these problems and, because we believe that children are agents of change, we involve them in meeting their most basic needs and promoting their rights.

ChildFund Philippines currently works with 11 partner organizations to assist more than 500,000 children and families in 23 provinces, 54 municipalities, 15 cities, and 528 barangays all over the country.

ChildFund Philippines Foundation, Inc. is a non-sectarian, non-profit, local NGO working in 21 provinces, providing assistance to children facing poverty and other challenges.

IMPACT GROUPS

Children and Youth in Culturally Marginalized Groups

Indigenous and Muslim children belong to some of the poorest and most disadvantaged sectors of society. They have poor access to basic social services – including education, which does not take their unique cultural and religious requirements into account. As a result, they are more vulnerable to violence, child labor, trafficking, and recruitment by extremist or armed groups.

Children and Youth with Disabilities

Children with disabilities systematically encounter social exclusion and protection issues. They also have limited access to inclusive health, education and socio-cultural services.

Children and Youth Affected by Natural Hazards

Natural hazards impact children’s health and development through loss of life, injury, or aggravating diseases related to malnutrition, poor water, and sanitation. The loss of family income and lack of physical security make them highly vulnerable to sexual abuse, child labor, trafficking, and stress.

Children and Youth Engaged in Hazardous Labor

Child labor has its roots in poverty and the lack of decent and productive jobs. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has the highest incidence of child labor and poverty in the Philippines.

Children and Youth Affected by Armed Conflict

Children in situations of armed conflict experience poverty and social injustice and have limited or no access to basic services. They can be used in armed conflicts as combatants, messengers, and camp workers. They are also subjected to various forms of abuse, including killing and maiming, abduction and detention, and sexual abuse. BARMM has the greatest number of school-aged children and youth who are not in school among all the regions in the country.

Children and Youth in Extreme Poverty

Around 13 million Filipino children live below the poverty line, with the vast majority living in rural areas. Chronically malnourished children lack the nutrients they need for proper health and physical and mental development.
