On September 21, 2024, ChildFund Philippines, together with local partners and volunteers, united across the country for International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day, a global initiative aimed at tackling ocean pollution and protecting marine ecosystems. From Luzon to Mindanao, various organizations led cleanup efforts in their communities, reaffirming ChildFund’s commitment to creating a healthier environment for future generations.
In Baseco, Manila, ChildFund Philippines, in partnership with GEMS Heart and the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), led a large-scale cleanup of the coastal area. Over 200 volunteers joined forces to collect and segregate debris, removing a significant amount of waste from the shoreline.

Meanwhile, local partners such as Ha Uman Assn Inc. , Kalambu-an Project , CHILDInitiative , Solidaridad- Idp Foundation Inc. , Federation of Associations for Communities and Children’s Empowerment Inc. , XAES Foundation Inc. , REINA Federation of Parents Association Inc. , and SPUPCDCFI – ChildProTECT spearheaded their own coastal cleanups in various regions across the Philippines. ChildFund staff and volunteers worked alongside them, demonstrating the power of collaboration in achieving environmental sustainability.

ChildFund’s focus on cleaner oceans ties directly into its broader climate action initiatives. By involving youth volunteers in these efforts, the organization ensures that the next generation understands the importance of environmental stewardship. Clean oceans are essential not only for biodiversity but also for the livelihoods of millions of people, including children who depend on coastal resources for their surviva
Youth volunteer Ralph Cyrus shared his thoughts on participating in the cleanup:
“Joining this coastal cleanup made me realize that we have the power to protect our future. Every piece of trash we picked up wasn’t just about cleaning up—it was about creating a safer world for kids like us to grow up in.”

ChildFund’s commitment to environmental action extends beyond one-day events. Through its climate action programs, the organization educates young people on the importance of environmental conservation and equips them with the tools to contribute to a sustainable future. The International Coastal Cleanup is a critical part of this strategy, bringing communities together to address the pressing issue of ocean pollution.
As ChildFund Philippines continues its work, the message is clear: united efforts are key to creating meaningful change. Each cleanup, each volunteer, and each partner play a vital role in ensuring a cleaner, healthier ocean for the next generation.
