ChildFund International made a significant impact at the recent School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV) Learning Symposium in Bangkok, Thailand. The symposium, co-chaired by UNESCO and UN Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), brought together key stakeholders committed to ending school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) in the Asia Pacific Region.
“The EPW program equips children with self-protection and social-emotional skills. Promoting pro-social behaviors is crucial in creating a conducive environment where children thrive,” says Marlene Floresca, Education Specialist, ChildFund Philippines.
Floresca presented the organization’s transformative program, “Education for Protection and Wellbeing” (EPW). The program adopts the Whole School Approach, working closely with caregivers, teachers, and communities to foster protective environments for children.
ChildFund’s EPW presentation centered on how the program could contribute to the regional collective effort towards ending the gendered violence that children experience.
In the Philippines, implementation of EPW has been informed by several assessments done by the Country Office between 2017-2019.
The symposium focused on strengthening partnerships, discussing strategies for broader SRGBV intervention implementation, promoting evidence-based resources, and formulating key messages for policymakers.
