ChildFund Philippines, together with SEAMEO INNOTECH and the Department of Education (DepEd), participated in a workshop to refine the Homeroom Guidance Program Facilitation Manual. This event brought together education leaders, teachers, principals, and guidance counselors from across the country to ensure that the manual is practical and effective in helping students build essential life skills.
The Homeroom Guidance Program is designed to support K to 12 learners in their academic, personal, social, and career development. It also plays a key role in promoting mental well-being. The workshop focused on reviewing and improving the manual that teachers will use in the classroom, making sure it provides the right tools to guide students in a meaningful way.
A major part of the workshop was the introduction of the Localized Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Competency Framework for Filipino Learners, developed by ChildFund Philippines and SEAMEO INNOTECH. This framework was used to assess how well the Homeroom Guidance Program integrates SEL skills, which help children manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Validating the Homeroom Guidance Program Manual is an important step in making sure teachers have the support they need to help students grow in all aspects of their lives. The workshop helped refine materials that teachers can rely on in guiding students through real-life challenges. It also emphasized the importance of making lessons engaging and relevant to children’s experiences. By making these improvements, the program ensures that schools provide a nurturing space where students feel heard, understood, and supported.
This initiative highlights ChildFund Philippines’ commitment to creating safe and supportive learning environments where children can develop confidence, connect with others, and gain the skills they need for life. As we continue to refine educational resources, our focus remains on ensuring that every learning tool makes a real difference in the lives of students.
