Parent-Teen Talk Launched to Strengthen Communication and Support Adolescent Wellbeing

ChildFund Philippines, in partnership with the Local Government through the Population Commission Division (POPCOM) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), launched the Parent-Teen Talk program at the City Hall Social Hall in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte. The initiative brings together parents and adolescents for honest, age-appropriate conversations that help build understanding and trust at home and within the community.

Parent-Teen Talk is one of ChildFund’s efforts to support adolescent wellbeing by creating space for families to discuss sensitive topics such as sexual and reproductive health. With the increasing number of cases related to teenage pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, and teen suicide in the country, the program offers timely support to parents and young people who may not always know how to begin these conversations.

The sessions are designed to be interactive and practical, encouraging both parents and teens to share their thoughts and listen to each other’s perspectives. Topics include physical and emotional changes, relationships, boundaries, and how to make informed choices. Families are also introduced to tools and approaches that can help strengthen their communication in everyday life.

The launch was attended by Pastor Rodolfo P. Mabbagu of the Universal Restoration Church, representing Mayor-Elect Roberto Y. Uy. Also present were ChildFund Program Officer Danilo V. Cabidog, POPCOM Officer-in-Charge Rochene Marie N. Baylon, facilitators from partner agencies, and community participants from selected barangays in the city.

During the activity, both parents and teens expressed the importance of open dialogue at home. Many shared their hopes for a stronger relationship with their families and appreciated the chance to speak freely in a safe, supportive setting.

ChildFund Philippines continues to work closely with local partners to create nurturing spaces where children and youth feel heard, valued, and protected. By helping families start meaningful conversations, programs like Parent-Teen Talk pave the way for deeper connection and greater understanding at home—where it matters most.
